Welcome to Labrix

Labrix is a small independent publishing house created from the desire to explore stories and ideas that reach beyond the usual boundaries of the visible world. We are drawn to what unfolds between the lines, in quiet moments, in intuition — and also in playfulness, which opens new ways of perceiving. We believe that play can lead to understanding just as deeply as words can.

On the edge of what we see and what remains hidden, we give readers the space to look for their own answers to timeless questions — who we are and where we are heading.

We don’t believe in simple truths or ready-made conclusions; we prefer to open a path toward personal insight.

Every book and every game we publish is created with the understanding that the reader or player is an active participant in the process, not only a recipient of a single correct interpretation (or ready-made instructions).

We believe in books and games that don’t need to conform.

In works that are allowed to mature.

In stories and playable worlds that reveal subtle layers of reality while remaining open to interpretation.

Labrix is a place where the visible meets the unseen —
and where both readers and players can become explorers.

nature wood background

Labrix Publishing was established in 1998 as a natural continuation of the creative collective Líná želva (“Lazy Turtle”) — an open group of curious, playful minds drawn to deeper exploration. It was Líná želva that first published the samizdat edition of Leela – Paths to Self-Discovery in 1997, bringing this ancient Indian game back to life.
From the very beginning, Labrix has focused on books at the intersection of play, philosophy, introspection, and the role of chance in our lives. Key titles include Leela, Totem Animals, and Leela – Self-Discovery as an Endless Game. In collaboration with the Lotus Buddhist Center, we also published spiritual works such as The Teaching of the Lotus by Bhante Wimala and Words of My Heart by Tibetan master Dudjom Rinpoche.
After a brief hiatus starting in 2007, Labrix resumed its publishing activities in 2019. We began by reissuing updated editions of our most beloved titles. In 2025, we started to expand into digital formats and prepared selected books for international publication.
In December 2025, we are releasing Leela – Paths to Self-Discovery in English, followed by Totem Animals and, in spring 2026, a new book titled The Magic of Chance – Synchronicity, Signs, and the Hidden Order in Chaos, which opens our catalogue to even broader themes.

Leela – A Game Inspired by Ancient Indian Wisdom

Leela – A Game Inspired by Ancient Indian Wisdom
Leela, Paths to Self-Discovery is a psychological game — a cosmic game or a game of chance — rooted in the tradition of ancient Indian game. It can be played alone or with others, making it both an individual journey and a shared experience.
Through play, it offers insight into yourself and others, while gently inviting reflection on human and moral values. For those who look deeper, the game reveals far more than meets the eye.
The board is divided into eight ascending levels that represent different aspects of life and consciousness — from physical needs and emotions to inner balance, self-awareness, and universal insight.
Players move across 72 fields, each representing a psychological state, life situation, or inner quality. Helpful attitudes (arrows) lift the player upward. Limiting patterns (snakes) send them back. The game mirrors your inner state and offers a gentle way to observe yourself through the lens of play.
Originally used in monasteries as a tool for meditation and introspection, Leela is today a unique way to reconnect with deeper meaning — one throw of the dice at a time. Its essence, like many principles from Indian and Eastern philosophy, resonates increasingly with discoveries in modern psychology and the natural sciences, especially physics.
The game set includes a set of cards that explain the rules, describe the eight levels of the game board, and offer interpretations of each individual field.
All you need is a dice, a small personal token — and the game can begin.
